Fall, preparing for Winter

Fall – many love this time of year! The leaves turn a golden orange, red or yellow. The pumpkin patch and corn mazes spring to life.  The smell of apples, fresh or cooked in cobblers, pies or applesauce abound.  It is a wonderful time of sensory overload for our eyes and noses!  It is also a time to prepare for the coming winter months.  As the days get cooler, how will you keep your loved one warm?  As I kept my father in my home, I wondered how I could keep him warm without heating the whole house and increasing my heating bill!  I found an electric mattress pad kept him warm at night. I found a twin-size electric blanket worked great at night but also, during the extra cold days, I would put it over him in his chair.  Always keep the controls on low and ‘hide’ the controls to prevent overheating.  Lap robes, sweatpants (for men or women), warm fuzzy socks with rubber dots to prevent slipping, are also a few of the common clothing needs to help them stay warm.  As we focus on the outward needs, let us not forget the inward needs of love, respect and forgiveness we owe our loved ones.  Life is too short to not prepare for winter and eternity!

Galatians 6:7-8 “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.”
