Merry Christmas! I don’t know why but it always amazes me the great controversy those two words stir up every year.
Controversy is often seen among family members during the holidays as well.
1. The noise of multiple conversations, children playing, TV playing may cause frustration and irritation for the elderly who have hard of hearing issues.
2. The caregiver may experience jealousy as their siblings come to visit and the parent seems to think they ‘can do no wrong’?
3. The caregiver may receive useless gifts, requiring pretend gratitude.
4. The caregiver is expected to cook and house everyone who arrives from out of town.
All of these situations, are sources of potential conflict. Be aware of the traps and plan your response ahead of time. Turn on Christmas music, try to relax and enjoy the moments. One day, those ‘difficult moments’ will be all you have – make them happy memories.
Psalm 29:11 “The Lord will give strength unto His people, the Lord will bless His people with peace”.
